Are you still struggling with the stock mechanical shift kit for your Harley’s primary clutch? In this article we will discuss a simple upgrade that can make shifting a much smoother and more integrated process.
If you are thinking about upgrading your bike to one that is more powerful with the Harley look and smoother then there are many upgrades that might make since. A new exhaust can add power, as can an engine improvement. You could outfit the hog with new saddlebags, seats, and wheel covers to enhance the Harley look. But one of the easiest ways to create a smoother ride is to install a Harley Davidson hydraulic clutch kit.
All clutches operate basically the same whether you are driving rig or a motorcycle. Disengaging the clutch allows you to shift into a higher or lower gear and keep motoring on. However, as on any vehicle that has a standard transmission, the clutch can either be soft or hard. A soft, smooth feel is made easier by a hydraulic clutch because it assists the rider in pushing down the pushrod. Many bikes are starting to have hydraulic clutches installed as more people ride, but if you don’t already have one the Harley hydraulic clutch is easy to install (except for gear heads take it to a shop) and increases the performance of the bike.
Harley Foot Clutch is for the Purist
Some purists may still like the old Harley foot clutch. These clutches were called “suicide” for good reason. While you are engaging the clutch you have to let go of the handlebars and thus at high speeds it can be a complicated trick. Riders that experienced can perform this switch, but it is generally too difficult for novices. These foot clutches went out of vogue in the nineteen fifties, but can still be found and do hearken back to the days of the original machines. If you are a purist then this is the clutch for you.

But, if you are a beginning rider who wants to by an old bike, it might be advisable to buy have the bike fitted with a “mousetrap” which is a spring assembly that can convert your foot clutch to a more easily manageable hand clutch.
